Heidemann.tv Seward Alaska at Black Beach  One of our favorite place to go in Seward is the Black Beach. Due to volcanic ash from the near by volcanoes the beach has turned black. When the tide is low you can get to some large rocks located in the bay. The first time I was here I was able to take some photos of star fish that live in the bay. This time however the tide was in so we couldn’t get to the rocks, and the tide wasn’t due to go out for another 4 hours. Below are several pictures we’ve taken over the years on trips to Alaska the Starfish you see in the middle picture are the ones I was hoping to check on again. The picture to the left shows why that wasn’t possible. News  Above is a picture of the star fish that were living on the rocks in the Seward bay when we were there in 2005. I was hoping to see if they were still there in 2011. The picture above are the rocks you can get to when the tide is out. The bay has the worlds 2nd largest tide change and it changes every 6-hours. Bay Rocks 2011 This time we did stop and take the nature walk above the Black beach. Its a full 7 mile trail you can take along te coast. We had the kids with us so we omly managed to make it 2 miles.  Bay Rocks 2005 Nature walk Made with Xara © Videos and pictures are the property of Buddy Heidemann 2011
